LJCC Triathlon was another Team Magic Hit

May 31st, 2010

As Memorial Day began the athletes who were to participate in the First Annual LJCC Triathlon prepared to begin the sprint distance race.

The on road/off road options split the field and we rolled onto Montclair Road shortly after 8 am with the first racer out of Transition. The fast course with just a couple of small rollers was easy for us to work. Birmingham PD was out in force to control the intersections we had to cross. Our crew had a fairly easy day as we rolled up and down the road and worked with USAT to make the race fun, fair, and safe for each racer.

Our friend and one of our team’s favorites Kelli Eldridge finished today’s tri. Kelli was our beginner triathlete at the winter training session and has been bitten by the bug. We hope to see Kelli at many races this year. We have her talked into doing the 2011 3 State 3 mountain Challenge. Her first century ride will be a whopper!

Thanks to Team Magic, Birmingham PD, Jeh Jeh from Fox News, and all the racers who smiled and waved to us throughout the day.

We will be at the Mach Tenn Triathlon in Tullahoma on June 5 and the Buster Britton Triathlon in Oak Mountain State Park on june 12.

McMinnvile City Triathlon an AMAZING Event

May 30th, 2010

In past years McMinnville has been the smallest race we did. It wasn’t because it was a bad race or a bad venue or even bad weather. It just remained small. Team Magic had tried a number of different changes over the years to grow the triathlon but it never really took off.

Now its 2010 and things change, with the loss of the GJCC Triathlon in Nashville the great folks at Team Magic replaced it with a McMinnville and they modified the course to make it a sprint distance tri.

WOW, what a difference it made this year. Over 400 came to the race and it was fast, fun, and we all worked hard for a safe race. With no incidents on the course and only a few flats it was an easy day. I have personally done race support for over 150 tris and this was the smoothest event I’ve done. Even with us shorthanded we covered the event 100%, I switched things up a bit and had Monk take the leader while I took the role of Official Transport.

The Small Fry Tri was a huge hit and we watched future triathletes make a go of it. I really wanted to run through the pools but they told me I was too old.

So who won? John Lines of Nashville was the overall male winner and Melissa Steinhart of Lebanon, Tennessee was the overall female winner. Congrats to you both and to ALL the racers!

Melissa was one of our guest triathletes at our winter training session in March. We were all happy to see her on the podium. She is one of our team’s favorites.

If you have ever wondered why we enjoy the Team Magic races, the day we had at McMinnville is why. Smooth race, great staff, amazing volunteers.

We hope to see you on Monday morning at LJCC in Birmingham!
